Biopico Systems Inc. is seeking a Senior Research Scientist (New position) to join our growing team in Irvine, CA. The ideal candidate will have either a PhD degree in Biology (or related field) and experience in in vitro 3D cell culture. A successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional scientific research excellence, drug testing expertise, organizational skills, a commitment to detailed, accurate interpretation of results, and strong communication skills. Experience in the areas of in vitro brain models, cancer biology, immunology, ADME-Tox, 3D cell culture, and human microphysiological models are highly desirable.  He/she will demonstrate an ability to work independently, but also a willingness to collaborate with other members of the scientific team. 

Biopico Systems Inc. is a growing biotech company focused on improving drug discovery and development in the preclinical space through our OrganRXTM organ-on-a-chip technology. We partner with academic institutions and pharmaceutical companies to explore new applications, test existing and novel compounds within our OrganRXTM system products.

Responsibilities:

  • Design experimental studies based on existing project plans and develop new projects
  • Interact with other scientific leaders in industry and academia to innovate and solve scientific problems based on organ on a chip technology
  • Execute all aspects of these experimental studies, including culturing 3-D organs, performing assays, conducting drug IC50 studies, fluorescence imaging, and analysis of resulting data.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate records of all data and results in specified forms.
  • Present regular project updates (written and oral) to the scientific team.
  • Prepare written reports for customers that clearly convey the methods and results of executed studies.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • PhD degree or post-doctoral experience in biology, biomedical engineering, or related field with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience is required
  • Experience in 3D cell culture is required
  • Must be proficient in designing and executing scientific studies and preparing written reports or results of such studies.
  • Ability to read, understand, and execute complex protocols and project plans with minimal supervision or guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a commitment to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Expertise in drug discovery processes
  • Track record of relevant publications in scientific journals
  • Proficiency in communicating effectively with supervisor and scientific team members.
  • Previous laboratory work experience with organ on a chip is preferred but not required.
