A Human Multiorgan Microphysiological System for Modeling Immunotherapies, Tumor Clearance, and Normal Tissue Immune Injury

This study presented Biopico's OrganRX™ human multiorgan platform as a physiologically relevant system for evaluating both anticancer efficacy and immune-mediated toxicity of immunotherapies within the same experiment. The work addresses a major challenge in immuno-oncology: understanding whether immune activation remains tumor-specific or causes damage to healthy tissues.

The OrganRX™ platform integrates multiple human tissues connected by recirculating flow, allowing immune cells, cytokines, and therapeutic agents to circulate between organ compartments in a manner that mimics human physiology. The system enables simultaneous monitoring of tumor killing, cytokine release, immune activation, and potential off-target tissue injury.
